A fascinating, brief History of Alldays Peacock & Co Ltd…

by Norman Painting

…this company which was able to trace some of its ancestry back to 1625 and which, during more than 100 years, produced items from bellows up to enormous fans that dwarfed the men building them. Between these two extremes they made a bewildering range of engineering products, mostly associated with what in Birmingham is called “The Metal Bashing Industries”

…imagine the hive of activity it must have been in its heyday with smoke belching from the foundry chimneys, the noise of machinery and the vibration through one’s feet as the drop forging hammers pounded white hot steel into shape.

…the progress of this great engineering company, which continues to this day as part of The Witt Group, can be followed together with its foray into bicycle, motor cycle, commercial vehicle and motor car production.
